PARK CITY,
Kan. (May 20, 2007) – In addition to picnics
and barbeque, Memorial Day weekend this year means three
days of wheel-to-wheel sprint car action with the
O’Reilly NCRA Sprint Car Series, presented by
ICM/Ethanol.
The 360 winged
warriors make their first-ever appearance May 25 at
Junction Motor Speedway in McCool Junction, Neb., for
the first of two shows in the Cornhusker State.
In the middle of
the holiday weekend package the series returns to
Lincoln County Raceway in North Platte, Neb., on May 26.
In their first-ever visit to North Platte last year,
defending series champion Garry Lee Maier led all 25
green-flag laps for the win.
The racing weekend
comes to a close at the WaKeeney (Kan.) Speedway on May
27, where Tony Bruce Jr. and Jason Johnson each took
checkers last season.
Don Droud Jr.,
driving for Ochs Racing out of Jetmore, Kan., won the
May 12 Steve King Memorial Race at Dodge City (Kan.)
Raceway Park the last time out for the series. With the
win, Droud slipped in front of Chuck Swenson to take
over the point lead by 10 markers. Swenson won the April
12 season opener at Nebraska Raceway Park.
Two-time defending
series champion Maier, seeking his fourth title overall,
was ninth in the opener but collided with Mike Chadd at
Dodge City on the second lap of the feature. Maier
wasn’t able to continue and it currently seventh in the
standings.
Rounding out the
top 10 in points after two shows are Stu Snyder (3rd),
Preston Peebles II (4th), Mike Chadd (5th), Mike Peters
(6th), Derek Drown (8th), Patrick Bourke (9th) and C.J.
Johnson (10th).
