PARK
CITY,
Kan. (May 24, 2007) – Kelly Boen will be
back in the saddle this weekend after all with the
O’Reilly NCRA Late Model Series, presented by
ICM/Ethanol.
“We’re going
to go, we’re going to do it,” Boen said during a May
24 telephone interview. The two-time defending
series champion plans to race both shows, May 25 at
Mid-Nebraska Speedway and May 27 at Nebraska Raceway
Park’s I-80 Speedway.
“If we get
through the first night and I still feel good, we’ll
go to the next show,” he said.
Boen was
severely injured when he flipped his racecar April
28. The initial diagnosis was that he could be out
of action for up to five months.
After
returning home to Henderson, Colo., Boen saw a
specialist in Denver, who this week released him to
race, saying, I’m OK with it if you feel like you’re
ready, according to Kelly.
Since the
accident, Boen has installed a full containment
driver’s seat in his racecar and purchased a Hans
device. He will be driving the same racecar he
wrecked at Lakeside, now nicknamed “Flipper.”
“I was at the
shop last night as the guys were finishing it up,”
Boen said, “and I told them, ‘let’s load Flipper up
and go give it a ride.’”
