“It's a great
honor for 81 Speedway to host a Steve King Foundation event.
After all the support that the King family has given
racing since the inception of NCRA, Danny winning a
championship with Dave Fruesher, then two with Steve. We
are excited about the opportunity to assist with the
foundation in this manner,” said C. Ray Hall, 81 Speedway general manager.
“Steve was the
stabilizing force behind King Racing. He
will always be missed in racing because of his
personality both on and off the track. He will always be
a true champion," added Hall.
King had run
primarily in the NCRA and ASCS circuits before his death
in August after injuries sustained at the Knoxville
Nationals in Knoxville , Iowa. His accomplished career, which started
in 1989, included 17 NCRA sprint car feature victories
and two NCRA Sprint Car Series Championships. One of
Steve’s wins came at 81 Speedway on July 4, 2005.
The Steve King
Foundation was established to help people involved in
racing across the country by providing aid to race car
drivers, pit crew members, racing officials, track
operations personnel or the immediate families of those
individuals who are involved in dirt track racing and
are seriously ill, severely injured or killed. The
foundation will also contribute to organizations and
facilities dedicated to improving the safety of the
sport.
The Steve King
Fund was established as part of the Hodgeman County
Community Foundation to help residents of Hodgeman County.
The Foundation has
applied for 501(c)3 status, making all donations tax
deductible.
