Point Leader Anderson Leads Late Models Back to Mid-Nebraska Speedway

PARK CITY, Kan. (July 17, 2007) – After opening the 2007 season at Mid-Nebraska Speedway, the O’Reilly NCRA Late Model Series, presented by ICM/Ethanol, returns to Doniphan, Neb., this week. They will roll onto the 3/8ths-mile oval for the Pump ‘N’ Pantry Late Model Nationals on July 20-21.

Last year, Kyle Berck took the checker on Friday with Darren Miller grabbing Saturday’s big payday.

Omaha’s John Anderson won the last two shows of Speed Week earlier this month and took over the point lead. He is 80 points in front of two-time defending series champion Kelly Boen in second. With two NCRA wins this year, one of them in the season opener, Delbert Smith is third in the standings. The 2001 series champion is 20 points ahead of the 2002 champion Berck, with Mike Wiarda fifth.

Boen and Al Purkey, 2003-04 champion, have the other checkers this year. It was the 22nd win for Boen, third all time. Purkey won for the 25th time to break a tie with the late Larry Phillips for first on the all-time NCRA list.

Friday’s show pays $1,500 to win and $400 to start. The ante jumps on Saturday, paying $4,000 to win and $500 to start.

Again co-sanctioned with the Colorado Late Model Association (CLMA), NCRA officials expect to surpass the 35 drivers who were on hand for both days of last year’s event.
