Boen Ties Career Mark in O’Reilly NCRA, Takes
Over Point Lead Heading into McCool
PARK CITY, Kan.
(Aug. 1, 2007) – With a sweep of both shows
last weekend, Kelly Boen also swept into the point lead
and moved to the top of the career victories list in the
O’Reilly NCRA Late Model Series, presented by
ICM/Ethanol.
In the Aug. 3-4 King of
the Hill Late Model Shootout at Junction Motor Speedway,
Boen will try to increase his lead while the others will
try to rein him in. But the 3/8ths-mile oval near McCool
Junction, Neb., may not be the best place to try and
slow the Henderson, Colo., hot shoe.
He has won the last four
NCRA shows there, including June 30 this year, and six
of the last seven. Since 2004, Boen has six wins, a
second- and a fifth-place finish in nine NCRA shows at
Junction Motor Speedway.
The two-time defending
series champion seems to be hitting a midseason stride.
After a July 3 win, point leader John Anderson was 85
points ahead of Boen in the standings. Since then he has
three wins and a second-place finish in the last four
races to move to the top of the standings.
With Saturday’s win, Boen
tied former series champion Al Purkey for first on the
all-time NCRA late model wins list with 25. Purkey
entered the season with 24 victories, same as the late
Larry Phillips, until a May 27 win put him on top.
Anderson has an incredible nine top four finishes in 10
features this year. Despite a DNF on July 27, he is
still second in the standings.
Over the last four races,
2002 series champion Kyle Berck has finished second,
first, ninth, and third to move from fourth to third in
the standings. Rounding out the top five are Mike Wiarda
and 2001 series champion Delbert Smith.
The Midwest LateModel
Racing Association (MLRA) and the Topless Outlaw Racing
Association (TORA) are also sanctioning this event.
