Doniphan, Nebraska (May 29,
2010) - Four-time
series champion Kelly Boen of
Henderson, Colorado came back to
a familiar car, familiar
surroundings and familiar end
result as he took the lead early
and dominated the O’Reilly/NCRA
late model feature finale at
Mid-Nebraska Speedway in
Doniphan, Nebraska Friday night.
The
all-time division leader in
feature victories started on the
front row but it was fellow
outside front row starter Kyle
Berck of Marquette, Nebraska
taking the lead as the green
flag fell. Berck, the defending
series champion, led the first
three laps before Boen got a run
underneath Berck and his Dorothy
Lynch sponsored Lazer chassis in
turn two to take the lead.
From
there it was all Boen as the
only thing that slowed his pace
was a pair of cautions for spins
on lap five and seven. But from
then on there was no stopping
Boen as his Peterson Fluid
Systems/Roadrunner Fabrication
sponsored Rocket chassis went
the rest of the distance
unchallenged to take the half
straight away victory, his
second of the season. It was the
first win of the season aboard
the familiar #07 after driving
for Broken Bow, Oklahoma car
owner Terry Pannell during the
first three races of the season.
“The
track was excellent tonight,”
said Boen. “Kyle got me on the
start and had the preferred line
early. I was able to pull down
to the bottom and get a little
traction coming off the corner
of two and got under him and was
fortunate to take the lead.”
Berck
would settle for the runner up
position with Gillette,
Wyoming’s Eddie Kirchoff holding
off a hard charging Al Humphrey
to finish fourth. Jerry Warner
had a strong run to round out
the top five.
Heat
race winners for the twenty-six
car field were won by Cory
Zeitner, Boen and Berck while
veteran Delbert Smith topped the
nights “B” feature action.
