Phillips Masters I-80 in NCRA Late Model Spectacular

By David Smith, Jr.

Greenwood, Nebraska (July 2, 2010) - Terry Phillips of Springfield, Missouri was the class of the field as he took the lead with six laps remaining and never looked back to win his second O'Reilly/NCRA late model feature of the season on Friday night at I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, Nebraska. The race was a co-sanctioned affair with the Lucas Oil MLRA and the MARS DirtCar series.

Chad Simpson started on the pole for the thirty lap feature and quickly jumped out into the lead. Two time and defending O'Reilly/NCRA series champion Kyle Berck started third and by lap three had moved himself passed Simpson to take the lead.

Berck continued out in front but behind him all eyes were on Phillips as he moved his Andy's Frozen Custard sponsored super late model up from his eighteenth starting position and into the top five.

Phillips was on the leaders bumper after a late race caution and on the restart on lap twenty-four, took over the top spot from Berck and would go on to take the victory. Alan Vaughn finished third while former two-time series champion Al Purkey worked his way up from his twenty-third starting position to finish fourth. Jason Utter rounded out the top five.

Heat races for the 44 car field were won by Evan Hubert, Cory Zeitner, Denny Eckrich, Chad Simspon and Vaughn while Phillips and Joe Kosiski took home the two "B" features.
