NCRA Modified 2008 Campaign Opens Season Saturday

PARK CITY, Kan. (April 7, 2008) – Saturday the O’Reilly NCRA Modified Series, presented by ICM/Ethanol, will kick off the 2008 season at 81 Speedway.

Five-time defending series champion Brian Franz of Halstead, Kans. will be looking to open the season the same way he ended the 2007 campaign. Franz won the season ending Fall Classic at 81 Speedway to give him three victories for the season and a record 24 career victories with NCRA.

Last season 53 drivers entered the season opener at 81 which was won by three-time NCRA champion John Allen. Another strong field is expected for the first of a 10 race series that will eventually decide the 2008 Modified champion.

When you list some of the top contenders expected to show up for this years opener you have to put Jeremy Massey at the top of the list. Massey earned Rookie of the Year honors last season on the strength of two feature victories and a runner-up finish to Franz in the 2007 standings. Third place Greg Stephens is always a top contender as is fourth place Marc Hurd. Hometown driver Brian Powers won an event at 81 last season and finished the season seventh in points.

Racing begins at 7 p.m. Saturday with gates opening at 5.
