Area Disaster Postpones NCRA Sprint Car Event

PARK CITY, Kan. (May 7, 2007) – Severe weather in Western Kansas forced the cancellation of last weekend’s show in the O’Reilly NCRA Sprint Car Series, presented by ICM/Ethanol, at Dodge City Raceway Park.

Local safety personnel were not available on race night. A devastating tornado destroyed the small Kansas town of Greensburg, located 45 miles east of Dodge City, a few days earlier. With all extra safety personnel helping in Greensburg and an unfavorable weather forecast, track promoter Brad Maxwell decided to move the race back one week to this Saturday, May 12.

Two-time defending series champion Garry Lee Maier finished ninth in the April 15 season opener and is currently sixth in points. He won at Dodge City in the NCRA’s only visit there last year.

Both the NCRA and the ASCS Rocky Mountain Region are co-sanctioning this event, which is a benefit for the Steve King Foundation. King, a two-time NCRA Sprint Car Series champion, died in August 2006 following a racing accident at the Knoxville Nationals.

The Foundation provides financial assistance to those individuals or their immediate families injured or killed while participating in dirt track racing. When additional funds are available, the Foundation will contribute to organizations dedicated to improving the safety of the sport.
